Lifetime Early Years Academy
What is the Early Years Care Academy?
The EYC Academy is a government funded training programme designed for young people who are not in education, employment or training, but who are passionate about working with children. It is perfect for anyone who wants to start a career in the child care sector who prefers the hands on approach!
Who is it for?
The EYC Academy is free for any student who meets the following criteria:
16-24 years of age
Been living within the EU for the past 3 years
Currently lives in England
Not studying
Not attended university or gained a higher level qualification
Not working any more than 16 hours per week
Happy to submit personal information for a CRB check
How does the Academy work?
Students will attend a 10 day training course spread over a 2 week period (Mon-Fri). They will be working towards their CYPW Level 2 (Children & Young People’s Workforce certificate) which has recently replaced the NVQ Level 2 in Child Care. The student will receive £50 over the course of the 2 weeks (£25 per week), to assist with travel and lunch. Once the student completes their 2 week training course, we will then assist students in finding an apprenticeship role within a local nursery, playgroup etc… Initially we do ask students to try and source their own placement, however our employment team will be helping with everything from CV writing skills to interview techniques and jobs boards will be displayed at the course venue.
What is covered in the training?
During the 2 weeks, students will go through modules such as:
o Child Development
o Dealing with Challenging Behaviour
o Safeguarding
o Equality & Inclusion
o Infection Control
o Safe Handling of Medicines
o Children’s Nutrition
Students will also be qualified in Paediatric First Aid.
